Some of Meg's Favorite Things
We are gearing up for the holidays and I know a lot of people ask me how I make some of my food and what essentials they need in their kitchen for a clean living lifestyle. Getting outside and exercising is only a piece of the puzzle for living cleanly. This Black Friday I decided to go with the REI motto and #OptOutside. Jefferson was pretty pleased as punch to get outside while most people were either sleeping or out battle it out at the mall. For those of you who wanted to dive in to clean eating, there are some kitchen tools that will be essential for you try some of my recipes. Most of what you need you probably already have, but there are some items I find I have purchased that make my life a lot easier and my cooking more adventurous. My kitchen is not huge, but there are some items that are absolute must-haves for anyone who really wants to go head first into cooking clean.
The best purchase I made for myself was my multi-purpose spiralizer. I use mine several times a week. It takes me just a few minutes to make zucchini noodles or sweet potato noodles and create a healthy 'pasta' dish or a bed for some poached eggs. What I like about the Mueller Spiralizer is that it has several different blades and gravity helps do the work, as well as it has a little container with measurements on it so that you can see just how much you are making.
Another item I love are my baking sheets - having good, non-stick baking sheets not only means I will bake more often, but also makes for an easy clean up. From baking squash, to roasting vegetables, I am using my baking sheets more and more as the weather is turning cold.
Want to know a secret to how I get my food to look beautifully plated? I always use pure white dishes. Years ago I was watching the Pioneer Woman and she mentioned that when she started her blog that she kept using all these different fancy plates for her meals, but sometimes the plate would look busy because of a floral pattern underneath the food. Now that I am several months into my blog I can say I whole-heartedly agree. Using a simple white dish for plating my food allows the food is the star of the picture, bringing the eyes of my viewers to the food first.
The deeper I get into blogging the more items and tips I will have to share with you. Look forward to more posts of some of Meg's most useful kitchen items.
